they draw and cook

You must drop everything and run over to this beyond adorable blog, They Draw and Cook, discovered via Christine Castro Hughes' lovely new blog, Brunch.  Christine has a personal website, maganda, that over 10 years ago paved the way for the blogging generation.  I'm excited to be inspired anew by Christine!

potato bar

Here's a simple and savory food bar: the potato bar.  Offerings could include the traditional Russet and maybe roasted sweet potatoes?  Served alongside some creamy soups, it would be a great food theme for a fall or winter dinner with friends or game night.  Martha Stewart has a couple of takes on it here and here.  La Papa in Astoria, NY, might have a few new ideas for you, too.

corn cups

Last night, we had some friends over for Scrabble night and appetizers.  After we boiled the corn and sliced it off the cob, we set up a corn bar and served corn cups with different toppings: butter, lemon juice, shredded Monterey jack cheese, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, crushed red pepper.  I think everyone enjoyed their flavorful butter-slathered corn!

Other things to put atop your corn:

Old Bay seasoning

Smoked paprika

Tabasco

Parmesan cheese

Pressed garlic or garlic salt

Lime juice

There are so many ways to enjoy your summer corn!  Here are just a few:

Corn as the Italians Would Eat It

Mexican Corn on the Cob (Elote)

Japanese Corn

Grilled Coconut-Glazed Corn

Any other favorite corn toppings or recipes out there?
