hailing from london

Bajo's iconic double decker bus hails from London and is perfect roaming around in any urban metropolis, including this charming paper city from Made by Joel.  The brilliant red bus bears Bajo's characteristic smooth surfaces and rounded edges, making it an ideal toy for a toddler or preschooler.  Pairing perfectly with the little wooden bus is Miroslav Sasek's This is London.  Time to hop off the bus for a spot of tea and raspberry scones!  Many thanks to Land of Nod for sending us this delightful bus and book.

Our trip to the moon started with Avery and Nate exploring and bouncing around on a moonscape made with pillows and a white duvet.  Avery and Nate loved this stacking wooden rocket and liked trying to figure out how to put it together and assembling all the different possible color combinations.  Nestled in the rocket was a little astronaut, ready for an adventure.  A wonderful book that finished off our lunar afternoon was A is for Astronaut.  Thanks to Land of Nod for sending us the wooden rocket!

land of nod at south coast plaza

The Land of Nod has arrived in Orange County!  The newest Land of Nod store has been open at South Coast Plaza (Crystal Court, 3rd floor, Crate & Barrel wing) for a about a month now.  I just wanted to share photos from the night of the preview event (the Noddies definitely know how to throw a fantastic party!) and grand opening day.  The store is fun, clever, whimsical and thoughtful all at the same time.  Artwork by Californian artist Michelle Romo happily adorns the store front and play area.  Kids will love the collection of well-chosen toys, props for imaginary play, arts & crafts, furnishings and modern bedding (and so will adults)!  You can read more about the opening details and that amazing multicolored brick wall by Nod's Creative Director Danielle Kurtz on Honest to Nod.  More photos to come tomorrow!

colors by orla kiely

I have been a long-time fan of Orla Kiely's beautiful and modern prints, bags and textiles.  The way she combines bold color and pattern is an homage to vintage mod yet fresh and innovative at the same time.  In Colors, Orla Kiely's design sensibilities translate well to a board book about colors for babies, toddlers and young children.  Her familiar stylish and playful icons and graphics grace each set of pages.  After we read and admired the different prints and shades of color on each page, we sorted objects by color in different columns to create our own interesting designs.

Thanks to Land of Nod for sending us this gorgeous board book!
