the land of puppies and unicorns

What color will it be?  Avery was so excited to find out which colors her puppy and unicorn would be--it was a total surprise since they each came sealed in a bag.  These glossy creatures are perfect for kids who love balloon animals because they never lose air or pop!  This bucket o' blocks provided a perfect whimsical terrain that these two new adventure-seeking best buds explored together before nap time.

Thanks to The Land of Nod for sending the Bucket O' Blocks and the Pop! Mini Series.

making necklaces

This wooden bead set from The Land of Nod is perfect for many things: a morning of crafting necklaces, making bracelets at a play date or as a fun activity at a birthday party--guests can string together beads to make their own personalized necklace or bracelet and then take it home as a favor.  The alphabet beads provide extra practice with letter names and sounds, too!  Thanks to The Land of Nod for sending this lovely bead set.

on the go

The Hustle and Bustle Train set features many different modes of transportation--from a bulldozer to a space shuttle!  You can hop aboard a train, watch a car race and witness a space shuttle take off from its launch pad all in one day.  Avery and Nate loved the variety of vehicles and settings and all the little details of the play mat.

A perfect companion to the Hustle and Bustle Train Set is Line 135, a story that follows a child on a journey from the city to the country and eventually to a magical and imaginary landscape.  The detailed line drawings and sparing use of color make this a unique experience and story.  Thanks to Land of Nod for sending this enjoyable train set and book!

blocks and cheerios

Most of the time, Cheerios end up in my children's mouths or on the floor.  Occasionally, they work themselves into building with blocks.  They provide finishing touches to a roof or an abundance of them can serve as an imaginary pond or moat.  And of course, they are always a welcome snack in between constructing and building.  Stack, munch, stack, munch, stack, munch.

This particular morning, Avery wanted to wear one of her Lily shirts (thanks Lately Lily, for sending them!) and later, wings.  Love how Avery has her own ideas!

hailing from london

Bajo's iconic double decker bus hails from London and is perfect roaming around in any urban metropolis, including this charming paper city from Made by Joel.  The brilliant red bus bears Bajo's characteristic smooth surfaces and rounded edges, making it an ideal toy for a toddler or preschooler.  Pairing perfectly with the little wooden bus is Miroslav Sasek's This is London.  Time to hop off the bus for a spot of tea and raspberry scones!  Many thanks to Land of Nod for sending us this delightful bus and book.
